Intention to
Marry

Don’t forget to hand in your intention to get
married form to your celebrant at least one month before
the wedding date. http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/7529/bdm-notice-intended-marriage-form.pdf

Marriage Certificate

The certificate that you
receive on your wedding day is NOT sufficient documentation to
change your name. You will need to apply to Births, Deaths and
Marriages for a marriage certificate. For a standard marriage
certificate it is $39, however if you wish to have a pretty
commemorative certificate the fee is $52.
Each commemorative certificate also comes with a standard
marriage certificate. (Mr and Mrs Goof personally like the one
titled devotion). http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0020/7517/BDM-form-Marriage-Cert-Extract.pdf

Change of Name

Once you have received your marriage certificate you can then start changing your details. We found it easiest to start with your drivers licence as this is your main source of ID.
Good thing, they don’t charge you for a new licence, bad thing is you have to go to Queensland Transport and wait in line, but we found if you go about 2:30pm, before school and work finishes, it’s only about a 10-15min wait instead of an hour or so.
